How to generate free AI videos with MiniMax AI

Chinese tech company MiniMax AI has released a new text-to-video tool called Video-01 that can turn text into short, high-quality videos. The videos are 6 seconds long, but soon, they will extend the generation to 10 seconds. The videos are in HD, with a resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels, and run at 25 frames per second.

You can try Video-01 for free on MiniMax’s website. MiniMax recently got $600 million in funding from Alibaba and Tencent, making it a serious competitor in the AI video world.

Also, check out MiniMax’s official trailer. It showcases its impressive ability to generate long, coherent, realistic movie-quality videos.

It joins the rank of OpenAI’s Sora, Kling, Runway’s Gen-3, and Luma AI for high-quality AI video generation.

Generate a free video with MiniMax Video-01

Go to Video-01’s video page. At the time of writing, no registration or payment is required to generate a video. (I wonder how long it will last…)

Enter a description of the video. Remember to put in some action words.

You can write in English.

Press Generate. You will get the video after a few minutes.

Minimax AI video prompt examples

I tested Minimax AI with the following prompts.

Batman eating a hamburger in Central Park, New york. Ducks, trees, people in background. Noon time.

In a futuristic high-tech laboratory, the camera looks down from above, showing a woman dressed in an elegant evening gown conversing with a holographic avatar. The avatar is rendered with flowing lights and soft colors, accompanied by dynamic effects, creating an artistic and dreamlike atmosphere. The camera slowly rotates, capturing the subtle facial expressions of the avatar and the woman’s astonished reactions. In the background, glowing high-tech equipment and light effects highlight the modern aesthetics and visual impact of this virtual interaction.

A giant dragon flies out from the clouds, soaring around an ancient castle floating in the sky.

The video begins with an overhead view of a cyberpunk city reminiscent of Blade Runner, with rain pouring down onto the noisy streets below. The camera slowly descends, gradually approaching a man wearing a long coat, sitting at a small food stall. On the table in front of him are a bottle of green soda and a bowl of ramen.

My thoughts on Minimax

Minimax’s videos look a bit cartoonish. It seems to struggle with generating videos with a realistic style. Its quality is a bit lower than Kling and Runway’s videos.
