Pony Diffusion XL v6 is a versatile Stable Diffusion model for artistic creation. Many SD users have a lot of fun probing around the model to see what it can do.
Because of the well-captioned training images, there is so much you can do by just changing the prompt in the Pony model.
In this tutorial, you will learn how to prompt the Pony Diffusion XL v6 model to get the most out of it.

The score tags are:
- score_9
- score_8_up
- score_7_up
- score_6_up
- score_5_up
- score_4_up
The training images were manually ranked (!) by the model’s creator. score 9 is assigned to the best-quality images, 8 is assigned to the slightly less good, and so on.
However, because of a mistake during training, the tags became more verbose: Instead of score_8, it became score_8_up, and so on. For practical purposes, you can ignore the “_up” in the quality tags.
You don’t use any one of them alone. Use the top 3 to top 6 of them and put them in the beginning of the prompt.
Something like:
score_9, score_8_up, score_7_up,
score_9, score_8_up, score_7_up, score_6_up,
score_9, score_8_up, score_7_up, score_6_up, score_5_up, score_4_up,
Below is a comparison between 1, 3, 4, and 6 quality tags. Using only score_9 usually don’t do too well. You need at least 3. After that, it is a judgment call whether it is better.
I sometimes put “score_5_up, score_4_up” in the negative prompt.
During training, the source tags are used to tag particular image sources.
Below are the source tags. Put one or more of them right after the quality tags. You can also use them in the negative prompt.
- source_pony – generate horsy.
- source_furry – generate horse-humanoid hybrids.
- source_anime – generate anime style.
- source_cartoon – generate cartoon style.
score_9, score_8_up, score_7_up, score_6_up, source_pony, blue hair, very brave, village background, 1boy, looking at viewer
Safety rating tags control the generation of explicit content. They are similar to SFW and NSFW tags. You can use them in positive or negative prompts.
- rating_safe: Safe, family-friendly, SFW content.
- rating_explicit: NSFW content.
- rating_questionable: Somewhere in between.

Danbooru tags are tags created for classifying anime images. Many Stable Diffusion models, including Pony Diffusion, know them.
